I have had the battle with the school to get appropriate services for my son with dyslexia and ADD, without much luck.  I have done lots of research on both topics and also have my teaching degree in elem ed and a masters degree in special education.  I'm planning on starting a school held within my home this fall.  It is called "Empower Me" A Multisensory Learning Academy  Dedicated to Empowering Children with Learning Differences.  I'm looking to get the word out to any parents experiencing the same sort of struggles our family is, as well as get any opinions, comments, ideas from all of you as to what you'd look for in this type of environment.  You can take a peek at what I've got so far at:

I appreciate any feedback I can get......thank you

Re: Parent Starting School for Dyslexic Kids in WI
I plan on looking at what you have so far, but just wanted to let you know that my son couldn't even read his first word on his own until almost second grade. He is now in the 7th and has the reading comprehension of a 8th grader, reading fluency of a 7th grader, and word attack skills of a 5th. The program that seemed to work for him is the Wilson Reading Program. He has done wonders with it. I would definately suggest you look into the strategies this program has to offer. My son took Wilson in the first and second grade to teach him to begin to read, and now again in the seventh to help him catch up to grade level. I would of liked him to do the WIlson program every year from the beginning, but we had a lot of schools close down in our town so he was switched to a different school from 3-5th, and they had their own agenda on teaching kids how to read. I am happy that the Jr high school he now attends believes in Wilson because his reading has improved dramatically when takes this program. Hope this helps.
