Bill;

Don't know where to post where you will look first, so I'm going all over the board.

Please see this discussion at Schwab

www.schwablearning.org/message_boards/view_discussion.aspx?thread=26774

Bill:
Besides the million other posts that are At Schwab, pleading with you not to close this site....

I am asking once again, directly to you as a parent who desperately needs the people who come here...

Please don't close this site down yet. Is there anyway possible you can hold off the decision just yet.

Perhaps you can take some of the suggestions that have been brought up previously and link this site to GS, I am not sure, but anyhow, just my personal last ditch effort at hoping you will change your mind and not close this site down, just yet.

Re: Bill...Please reconsider closing the Schwab Site!!
kkornas, is there a reason that the GS might not prefer the architecture of the Schwab site relative to the GS site? I clearly don't know the GS business or organizational strategy so I can only speak from a user's perspective. I find the GS site scattered and hard to know where if anywhere I'd find something relevant. With the Schwab site, it is easy to find relevant threads and people. I was a frequent contributor to the Schwab site and found very helpful advice there. I think it is unlikely that I'll be a frequent GS contributor because the site feels so inefficient of my time and energy. The Schwab architecture just seems superior (from the user's perspective).

Moreover, the traffic on Schwab seems (from the perspective of someone blissfully free of any data) to dwarf the traffic on the GS site. If traffic is part of how GS pays for itself, why would you want to give up that traffic?

Perhaps you could explain the GS business/organizational strategy? How does GS support itself? What is the business plan going forward?

I just wanted to jump in quickly and make sure everyone's seen our recent post on the SL.org board. We've been listening to your feedback and comments, and have decided to keep the board open until Tuesday, February 19th. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts with us and being patient through this transition period!

Re: Bill...Please reconsider closing the Schwab Site!!
Dear Bill,
I am a parent of a 12 year old boy with dyslexia, ADHD and sensory processing disorder. I have also carried the shame of my attention, reading and writing difficulties all my life even though I have many other talents. Through the Schwablearning site while searching for answers to help my son learn to read, I realized at the age of 46 what was different with me and the cause of my many difficulties and challenges in life.

Many parents have come to this site and received help and support which is not available anywhere that I have ever found. These are parents and professionals in the trenches with real life experience in dealing with very unique situations that happen in the everyday life of a disabled child. This can not be replaced with any report or article you can provide. The regular GS community does not fit the individual and sometimes urgent needs of the parent attempting to support a child with a learning difficulty.

Please reconsider, however trivial you see this website as, this little place in the world is sometimes the only help a parent can afford or access and has also been the lifeline to those parents and the direct cause of the success of many many children with learning difficulties.

I have an AA degree in Interior design and owned my own giftware business for 14 years. Due to the urgent need to keep my son afloat in a public school who would not help and the many hours required to help him complete his work and get him to the services he required I was forced to shut down. With the near obsession to get my son to grade level and my several years advocating for him it appears to have opened a new door for me as well. I have been accepted into a Special Education Advocacy Training (SEAT)provided by COPAA and USC. It is an extensive training and I plan to help others with my newly gained knowledge. At Schwablearning many helped me find the way when I knew nothing and I feel it my responsibility and duty to pay it forward.
My heart is very heavy right now, please take a moment to rethink your decision. To keep this board as is could be allowing many more successful outcomes to follow. Please take my word on this because if your not a parent of a child with LD's and limited means you could not really stand in our shoes right now. As dramatic as it sounds, we Schwabies truly feel worried and anticipate great loss with the site closing us out in 24 hours.
Your keeping the old Schwablearning site as is would make a huge difference and it would be appreciated by many.

Re: Bill...Please reconsider closing the Schwab Site!!
I am e-mailing you, as I am sure many others are, in hopes that you will reconsider the closing of discussions on the forums at SchwabLearning.

Even with the message that the forum is closed for discussion after February 15, there is still TOO much going on...TOO many unresolved issues that parents are struggling with...are we to just leave them hanging?!...this is what will happen if the forum is allowed to just stop functioning at the close of business Friday February 15th....then what?!....what happens to those kids?!...

yes...the parents could come to great schools, or choolpsychologistfiles.com/forums or any other number of forums and state their case all over again...wait for answers and wait for us to try to find them and get caught up...or you can just leave things as they are...allow us to continue to help parents who are caught in the educational nightmares and let us guide them through...but we cannot do that if the forums are closed for posting...

Please reconsider and just link SchwabLearning to Greatschools somehow...but leave it be...
