Literacy Coach and Math Coach are actual positions in Los Angeles Unified School District schools. I'm not sure where wordwoman is located, but there are likely thousands in Los Angeles alone (although not all have the cool screen name). :)
The Literacy Coach and Math Coach mentor teachers on campuses that need a little help. My daughter's school lost the coaches last year due to budget cuts, since schools with APIs around 900 are felt to be doing fine without them, and the teachers on campus take on the position as part of their responsibilities.

Wordwoman, are you on twitter? If so, what's your handle? I would love to tell folks about the work you do. Excited to hear there is someone of your calibur in the middle school community. I encourage middle school parents to build their child's support team with amazing people. You would be an incredible addition.
I work within the schools. I am in charge of teaching content area teachers research based literacy and differentiated instructional strategies. I model lessons in classes, help teachers with planning and special events, write grants, order books for our book room, run meetings, etc. I am Word Woman because that is what the kids call me at school. I do the word of the day announcements.
Wordwoman, love the handle first of all, secondly, I would love to hear more about your role as a middle school literacy coach. I'm not familiar with this title. Do you work in the schools or as a consultant outside the classroom?
