When I decided to move here to the DC Metro Area, everyone said, "You'll love it! The schools are so great!" Are they? Here are the facts: I have 5 children, elementary to middle. 2 are 'gifted' one is 'special needs'. We came from a great charter school in a MISERABLE school district in the South with hands on education and small classes. I work in Maryland, intern in DC and live in Woodbridge, VA. The mere thought of a new school has MY stomach in knots! Are schools here really as good as everyone says? Which are better-MD? VA? DC? Can the schools here really accomodate all of my kids? (And, as a side note, does anyone know how much stress is put on standardized testing here?)

Re: New to VA/MD/DC area--Need input!
yeoman216,
I lived in Fairfax, VA many years ago, but I can tell you that to this day is the best county in VA. However, it's more expensive than Prince William (Woodbridge). Arlington has also good schools, not as expensive as Fairfax, and close enough to DC. Now I live in Montgomery County, which is also the best in MD. Another good county for education is Howard in MD. I wouldn't suggest DC or Prince George in MD.
