Re: 2009 Summer Intervention Programs
See if there are any private schools that specifically cater to LD kids and find out if they offer summer programs. I live in a city with a wonderful LD school and they have a fantastic summer program complete with conferences with the teacher teams t give you feedback on your child's learning style. They also provide a parent meeting to educate parents on how to get a formal diagnosis, if one is not determined already and what multi sensory teaching techniques they use. Also, they let you know what has worked with teaching your child so that it can be duplicated.

My kids are going to summer school which is helping them to prepare them for school next year. So you may want to check with your board of education and they will let you know which schools is holding summer school in your area.

Re: 2009 Summer Intervention Programs
Hello. It is vitally important for you to be a strong advocate for your child. DO NOT, under any circumstances, sign off on anything they try to push your way, if you don't agree. I have learned the hard way, not to sign anything except that I attended the meeting. I now write, "I neither agree nor disagree", and that's it. They don't like it, but too bad. I have fought for one year now after a new school district wanted to exit my child from RSP services. I noted that on the document, which is legal. Now, after not complying to the still existing IEP, we hired an advocate, requested IEE testing--at district expense, and now have a diagnosis of HFA which no one believed before. Now, going into next fall, they must offer us services. Biggest mistake parents make is that they get railroaded into signing things they should not sign, by the school districts. Stand up for your kids, I firmly believe moms know their kids needs best, and be prepared for a long drawn out battle if need be, until you get the services you feel are required to meet your childs needs.

Try looking around for schools that specialize in learning disabled children in your area. They usually have summer programs open for any child who wants to attend.

Re: Illinois 2009 Summer Intervention Programs
My son is entering kindergarten. He has an IEP and his disability is LD/Speech Delay. I was told he couldn't
attend the ESY program at the preschool he currently attends because he will be finished at that school in June. I don't know what program I can put in for atleast 4-6 weeks.

Re: 2009 Summer Intervention Programs
With this 2009 summer intervention program, do they have to attend a title 1 school, in order to attend, if not is there a charge for it and if so how much? Both of my childrend are on IEP's. One has asperger syndrome and in high school and they other has ADHD and in elementary. I asked for ESY but was denied because my kids grades are A's and B's, but that is with an IEP in place and next year my daughter will not have Reading sufficiency program or indian tutoring, so I am worried her grades will fall if something is not put in place to address her academics on the IEP. Right now she only has Organizational goals to address the ADHD on the IEP.
