What is the difference between to new fl state standards? I was told that they have lowered the math standards, Yet they will need a few years to  make changes on the FCAT. So pretty much still have to know everything on the test? Are they still going to teach everything that is on the FCAT until changes are made.

Did they lower some standards and set higher expectation on others standards? I been searching fl-doe. I can't really get a clear understanding.

Re: Difference between the new Florida standards ???
(I don't mean to over whelm you)

sometimes schools in addition to fcat explorer purchase a fcat practice website for the entire school. My school purchased the Brain pop and brain pop jr.( it also needs the school's password and ID.) You might want to ask them if this resource is availible.

You might also find the Texas sample and released test helpful practice. I think the reading is very simialar in diffculties to the FCAT.

There 's the fcat explorer. But you will need to ask your child's teacher for the student id and password. I also remember that there is a phone number you can call on the website to get the ID and password over the phone. Your child might already know his password and ID because they sometimes go on it at school .

dhfl143 and other group members: Since you are so familar with Fl school system, would you happen to know if you can download practice standard test questions? I've been able to in the past with regards the CA standards testing: www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/sr/css05rtq.asp

I do know that there is an online practice that children can do at school and home, but I cannot access. Any helpful information would be greatly appreciated!

Perhaps that's why she did poorly on the FCAT for math last year. That would explains a lot.

NOTE: The new 2007 Florida Content Standards in English language arts and mathematics are included in
this kit. Neither has been crosswalked to assessment blueprints or data because the Florida
Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) and Norm-Referenced Tests (NRT) data for the new standards
were not available from the Florida State Department of Education at the time of this update in the fall of 2007

Re: Difference between the new Florida standards ???
Thank you sharie! I'm sorry I didn't post earlier, I had crazy day.

Ive tried to find the old Sunshine State Standards, Ive had no luck.It seems that they have all been replaced with the new.

So far from what I read It seems that only the math standards are the ones that were made easier. They added more benchmarks in the reading . They also lowered the standards for gifted qualification.

dhfl, Do you remember last year when our kids told us that there was a lot of things on the FCAT math that they not learn or go over in class. I'm thinking maybe the change in standards had something to do with it. The math standards were approved on September 18,2007. 'I'm not sure when they were implemented.

Re: Difference between the new Florida standards ???
I found out at parent teacher conference. My non LD dd's teacher told me how happy she with the the new math state standards. She told me the math state standards are easier and she no longer had to jump from one thing to another. However they will not be any changes on the FCAT for the next few years and that the children still needed to know everything on the test. Maybe I'm missing something???

My concern is how will this effect using the FCAT to determine retention/promotion and graduation for the next couple of years.

Re: Difference between the new Florida standards ???
Sorry I am not following what you are asking? Are you referring to the Sunshine State Standards required for each grade? Or, are you referring to what will be required and tested on the FCAT? I guess I am not quite clear what you are asking about? I haven't heard any changes, where did you get your initial information?
