According to an article in this week's LA Times, students will be able to pick which scores they send to colleges.  The article is here: tinyurl.com/6x9mcb

Starting in 2010, students can sit for multiple tests and send only scores they wish.

Critics say this will favor affluent students who can take the tests multiple times and then have the choice to suppress less than great scores.  How does everyone else feel?  Will students really take the test 5, 6, 7 times?  Who has time for that?

Re: Speaking of the SAT, Now Students can Pick Which Scores...
For what it's worth, my son did NOT take any "test prep" courses. He did take the ACT early in his junior year, then late in his junior year, and once in his senior year. His junior scores were not bad, but nearly identical to one another. The scores from the test he took in his senior year were up by quite a few points. I really don't know if it's because he had covered another full year's worth of material (between junior and senior year of H.S.) or what, but I'm glad he took it several times.
I don't think the main benefit was getting admitted to different schools, but rather in better scholarship offers...

That's what the article referred to. The problem being on the West Coast is so few kids had heard of/knew about/take the ACT I didn't even realize that was an option for him.

I think 3 tests total is plenty anyway. They really have a racket going on!

Re: Speaking of the SAT, Now Students can Pick Which Scores...
I hadn't heard this, but it will be interesting to see how high schools handle it...

The ACT already lets students select which colleges receive which test results. However, if the student listed a high school code on their registration form, the ACT results are automatically reported back to the high school, and the high school (when they send out transcripts to colleges) usually list ALL the ACT and SAT score, anyway. (So colleges can tell if a student has taken the test multiple times, even if the student only chose to send the college one full set of scores.)
