Hi !

I would suggest you read this book called "Well Trained Mind" by Susan Wise Baver , before starting  to homeschool your child then visit HSLDA.com .Homeschooling is a big committment, reading this book will prepare you for it.

Good Luck!

easy does it
I homeschooled my two, now college students from 4th grade through high school back in the early 90's and am currently homeschooling my 13 year old.
It's quite scary to start but easy does it--literally.
First, try to find out how your child learns best. Some programs are books, books, and more books while others incorporate more hands on and even online or cd rom studies. The bottom line, choose what works. We use an mixture, Saxon for math, and it's excellent, Switched on Schoolhouse for history, a cd rom program, Apologia for Science, also cd rom, and the Currnets english curriculum (workbooks and readers with a strong emphasis on writing skills). We also use the Walch Health series in place of PE and my daughter studies logic through the Art of Argument.
These are all very good programs, and were purchased online complete with lesson plans that we follow to keep her on track.
