I want to homeschool .I need to know where to go?Who to call for this to be legal?Exactly what steps do I take?I've been ondifferent sites and I'm going in circles.I live in ca. and just pulled my son out of school. We are in the process of moving which has now been delayed.I don't want to send him back to his previous school or enroll him in the new one.I've been working with him here but I would like to do this the legal way.I was told maybe he could do independant study, but how /where do I go for this?

He is a smart 1st grader just extremely immature. He will not do the work in class, but will breeze through it at home. Can someone please give me advice??????????

Thank you TsMama24 for linking to them. I don't know why I did not link to T4L, my booboo.
Have a great night.

I second the suggestion about Time4Learning's "Welcome to Homeschooling" guide. It is the perfect introduction to all beginning aspects of homeschooling. You can find it at: www.time4learning.com/homeschool/welcome.htm

Best of luck!

Hi MomOfLittleMen,
That is great you want to homeschool. We are a homeschooling family, 3rd grade and 5th grade.
My kids breeze through things at home too.

You are in the beginning stage; “being legal”, there are many stages to come. (smile)

There are various ways you can find out about being legal in your area.
You have many options, from California Department of Education to great websites such as this one and time4learning.

Homefires.com can answer your question about California’s home-study program, the information can be found here
www.homefires.com/ca_style.asp#independentstudyprogram

T4L has great a homeschooling guide that I wish I would have come across a few years back! I surly would not have been so lost in confusion grasping at too much information while trying to teach on a daily basis if I would have came across T4L in the beginning. As well I spent way too much money trying to figure out what curriculum to use.

T4L is standards based. That might not mean much to you at this point, but what I rested in one day recently is when my 5th grader’ friend would come over and talk about what each was doing in school, they were both pretty much doing the same studies. In Oregon kids have to do state testing to be legal homeschoolers in 3rd and 5th grade so this year is crucial. I think most homeschoolers are way ahead of standards and I don’t dwell on standards, but it is nice to rest knowing your child is where he is suppose to be and you have lessons as a guide for teaching. The affordability is wonderful.
Healthybrightkids.com has educational links and downloads for specific subjects. Welcome to homeschooling.

Re: Please help me with homeschooling
Hello, and welcome to the group and to homeschooling :). The laws for California for homeschooling can be found here. www.hslda.org/laws/analysis/California.pdf . I would also look into joining a local homeschooling group or co-op and they could help you more on the law and what you need to do. If you have any more questions please ask and I will see what I can find for you as I am sure anyone else here will. Again welcome to the group!
