Remember the neighborhood lemonade stand from your childhood? Bring it back! Setting up a lemonade stand teaches valuable skills in mathematics, reading, following directions as well as learning the basics of entrepreneurship--cost vs. profit and  customer service.  Of course, in today's world, you'll want to be sure you are there to supervise and make sure your child is safe. What other entrepreneurial activities have your children done during the summer?

Re: Bring back the lemonade stand
My 6 year old daughter has been talking about setting up a lemonade stand for a few years now but I have been nervous to bring strangers up to us. It isn't like when I was a kid, no worries, etc. I am not sure if I was naieve or if people were just a bit more friendly then. Has anyone else opened a Lemonadestand in their neighborhood? How did it go? How much did you charge; 5, 10, 25 cents per cup?

Thanks!!

www.sunkist.com/takeastand/ Go to the Sunkist website and you can request a stand if your child is 7-12 years old. They are hoping, though, that you donate the money to a charity. Not sure if the stands are still available. I just put a request in yesterday so we'll see.

Re: Bring back the lemonade stand
I completely agree. My husband and I owned a dry cleaning business and let our daughter set up a lemonade stand out front two summers ago. She loved seeing the money come in and learned the true value of making your own lemonade. I think we need to keep this up since I gave her $20 yesterday for school to buy two books at the school book fair (while only spending $10) and she came home with $1.86. I told her that we could go to McDonalds with the $10 left over . . . since she did not come home with $10 she was stuck with my home made spaghetti. Teaching the value of money is important at an early age.
