El Cajon (10) to Pepper Drive Elm. (Santee) ( High 7) As I read others comments it looks like I should be looking to see if the school we are moving to has a GAtE program.  Or see if SAn Diego has a special school for children in GATE. please help. Re: GATE child in El Cajon/ Santee (CA) NEED HELP!
humm! What is the web site? In Cajon Valley Dist. To qualify for GATE programs, the child test scores need to be 99.5 or higher between 99.3 to 99.4 these children are most likely gate but they place them on pending until they can take alook at the other tests the children do like STAR testing and one more. If they do well on the test and score high in a subject or two they are then qulified to be placed on GATE programs.

Yes this has become over whelming. Thanks for your help. We have decided to stay at Fuerte a school which has a pull out GATE classes. Keep you up dated through out the year.

Qualifying by test score is one of a few different ways that a child can gain the GATE designation. Another less-publicized option is by parent and/or teacher referral. You can guess why this option isn't plastered on the school district web site. In any event, if you don't think your child has qualified via the test score option, collect past report cards, student work samples, teacher anecdotes, etc. and contact either the school principal or the district office to make your case.

It is my understanding (although I am not certain) that San Diego Unified has seminar classes composed completely of GATE kids, but I think they have to test at 98% percentile or above to get in. There' s huge list of the seminar schools on their website.

Woah! I'm overwhelmed. Looks like you have a lot of changes in the near future. One call to the district office should answer your question about the GATE program. As a former GATE teacher in a few different districts I suggest you ask for the director or assistant superintendant of curriculum and instruction or director/ asst. super of special services and then ask the following questions:
1. "Do all of your schools offer GATE programs?"
2. We are planning to attend ___ school next fall, can you tell me more about the structure of the GATE program at that school. Are the GATE students in a cluster class, pull out program or self-contained classroom. (schools and districts differ in how they fulfill the requirement to provide gifted instruction).

Love to hear what you receive in terms of answers.
