Hello Group,

My family may be relocating to the D.C./Virginia/Maryland area.

I need information on elementary schools and kindergarten programs for gifted and talented children in the area.

We currently live in New York City. My son recently scored in the 99th percentile on the OLSAT, which gets him into one of the city's three elementary schools for gifted kids.

I hoping there is something similar in the D.C. area.

Any information or guidance would be most welcome.

I've also heard that Fairfax County has a wonderful GT program, if you're looking at public schools.

I understand that Montgomery county in MD has an excellent GT program. They have the GT in the regular schools, and in 6th grade, I believe, they have special schools for GT only. Something to look at.

Re: D.C./Virginia/Maryland Schools for Gifted?
Fairfax County Public Schools in VA has gifted itinerant teachers in every elementary school and there are also several gifted center schools that the most gifted students can qualify for. These schools get the gifted students from several "feeder schools". There's a regular school and then a separate gifted program within the school. They are taught an enriched/expanded/accelerated curriculum but join the regular ed students for lunch, assemblies, recess, etc. I am a gifted teacher and I used to work in Fairfax. It's a very good program. I don't know anything about MD and in DC you'd need to go private.
