What are my choices if my child's old private school won't transfer his transcripts to new school? We have tried to get his transcripts transferred since last year and still the new school has not got them. What are the law's.

If you owe them money they won't release them. I you have your child's final report card the new school could use it to create a new transcript

You might want to talk to them to find out WHY they haven't sent them. Are there any outstanding fees or items? Do they have the correct address? I'm sure there is a law somewhere covering this. Like the earlier poster said, you might try picking up an 'official' sealed copy and delivering it yourself.
Good luck.

Re: What are my rights if old school won't transfer transcripts?
Have you contacted the old school personally, to see what the reason is? Could they be waiting for a personal signed letter or form filled out by you, and not just a request sent by another school for a copy of your child's records? (In the unlikely event someone you didn't authorize wanted your child's records, it's reassurring that the old school wouldn't just send them to anyone who asked.) If you're still in the same area of the old school, could you go to them and handcarry a sealed copy to the new school? My son's school has a stamp that they put on the back of any hand-carried transcripts, saying that if the stamp is torn or removed then the transcripts aren't official, so that may be an option for you, too.
