Re: THAT IS NOT THE SCHOOL I WANT!
Well I have the same situation going on right now, I just found out my home school is Hart School Elementry, but I wanted to have my son go Serrania but there are no openings, so what should I do?

Re: THAT IS NOT THE SCHOOL I WANT!
I am in a similar situation. I have my daughters home school and a school by my job. But my husband and I work early hours. We have no one to pick her up and they don't have after school care for kindergartner's. The school that we are going to put her in isn't a great school but someone will be able to pick her up. I am having a lot of difficulties with this because it really isn't a great school. Any advice?

Re: THAT IS NOT THE SCHOOL I WANT!
In Colorado you can transfer to ANY school, provided
1) the school has room for one more
2) the district has room for one more (cross district transfers)
3) the transportation is now completely on you.
In most cases, this simply means you have to apply for the transfer early.
If you are transfering out of Denver District or Colorado Springs District 11, it will take a lot of planning, as thousands of parents try to transfer out of these union boss run tragedies, and the receiving districts stop taking new applicants up to a year in advance.

Re: THAT IS NOT THE SCHOOL I WANT!
I'm in a similar situation in which I prefer my second grader to attend a different/better school. Unlike your situation though, I knew a year in advance. Despite that, I still felt powerless and there wasn't really not much I could do as the preferred school is in a different district. I finally accepted our reality and began to think positively. I reached out to friends with kids and asked them about their experiences at the new school. I also found this site and learned as much as I could about it. I additionally visited the school, spoke with the assistant principal, and gave my son a tour. These steps have made a big difference. I still prefer the other school of course, but given my limited circumstances, we are going to give this school a try and hope for the best. I'm going to be an involved parent, as much as I can, and the staff at the school will certainly get to know us. I hope this helps, and good luck!

Depending on your school district, you may be eligible for a transfer. I think it's always best to go to the district office in person and keep at it until you get into a school you're happy with.
