My daughter's first grade teacher, who is a long term subsititute until December 1st does not have control of the classroom. I have first hand eye witnessed this as I volunteer in the classroom. Half of the time she is asking a child to sit down, pull a card, stop talking, etc..

My daugther came from Montessori and this is not the environment she is accustomed to working in. My question is I don't know if I can make it until December 1st until the permanent teacher who by the way is wonderful returns. How does one let the teacher know? I have contacted the Principal and of course she supported the teacher and got her some assistance, but it has not helped.

Secondly, if the teacher does not return - I am definitely  going to request to have my child moved to a new teacher. Has anyone had that experience and how did it go?

Frustrated and need some help.

Trust me mommyanddaddy I hear you,and I know what you are saying.we are on 1 accord about the teacher's who don't have control of their classroom.what should they do to get control, they will never get control until parents, teacher's,and school staff come to 1 agreement and stick to it,and I will leave on that note.

Re: Teacher Does NOT Have Control of Classroom - What to Do?
Thanks and I had a wonderful time eating my favorite food and leaveing the seen before clean up time.hope you had a happy thanksgiving too.
this is how I would do it,no teacher will know when it's time to take the drug test.the sc hoolboard pays for the drug test.just like the kids, they don't know when the teacher is going to give a test right.see we don't have to test kids on drugs because all the bad kids will be with the bad teachers all in a class together.(bad control bad and good control good)I do know bad kids don't care.bad teachers hide behind theirs and know how to put on a good front until they get caught.
Let me tell you something that you already know, the police dept.knows most of the bad kids in schools.concern teachers that pay attention to their students they know when something is wrong with a child.give a teacher 1 week and they know the good kids from the bad ones.
I fully agree with your last paragraph you said it very well, and everytime the office send a bad child back to class that staff person should return too and help with that child then I don't think the office will send no more kids back to their regular class.
I know thats why I am not a school staff member because I would get the job done right.
Remeber this, this is why the school system is in bad shape because I am not a school staff member.(SMILE)

Okay Deb,

I was about to leave this conversation until I read your response. I'm with you to an extent, but every 9 weeks? That's major...and whos going to pay for the testing....not only that, when will the testing take place? And since all these 'test' are going on, PLEASE let's test the kids as well...I can't tell you how many times I've walked past students in the hallway, and got a wiff of, let's say 'cologne', that smelled similar to, let's say 'hemph'.

As far as sending the kids to the office, you know what happens? The office sends them back...as a teacher, you should be able to handel them....by the time the period is over, the kid has not only disrupted the class, but got to hang out in the hall way as well, going between the two 'professionals' that are supposed to be in control....

Your statement about 'good teachers' being with 'good students' will only happen when the parents of 'not so good students' realize that their kids are the ones we are talking about....

Hope you had a good Thanks Giving!!

Re: Teacher Does NOT Have Control of Classroom - What to Do?
I understand now what you are saying about the PLT test and I agree with you alone with drug test.I know this would be great for our kids and the school system if they start giving teachers drug and alcohol test every 9 weeks.
I believe if teachers would just send every disrupting child to the office and they put them in a special class, the kids that want to learn can learn and the teacher is clean of all posion the drugs and alcohol our schools would be a better place.then good teachers can have control of their classroom with good students.

Meanwhile, what's going on with your daughter's education? Shouldn't 'you be in that principal's office stirring up a hornet's nest? If that isn't working, go to the administrator. Have you spoken directly to the teacher/sub.? What about other parents, are any of them concerned?
How much time are you spending in the classroom? Lots of times children are transitioning and it takes a few minutes for them to settle down. Other days, children just seem to have more ambition and they feed off each other's energy. Is this a once in a while thing or an everyday, all day long thing?
The teachers and staff of schools need to be held responsible. They are getting paid for that job! If you sit back and do nothing, you and your child are going to be the ones to miss out.
Call the teacher's union, legislature, keep going until you get results! Get so many people involved.
You know, I had a situation like this once. Everyday, I went to the school, I observed, I documented, I even asked other teachers and parents. Eventually, the teacher got the message and she did apply herself.
One thing you must remember, all teachers are not on the same level. Some are new, some are worn out or burnt out.
If you choose to do nothing, nothing will get done!
Teaching is a high stress job and some people just aren't cut out to be good teachers. Make it happen! Hold them accountable!
