Hi, I am moving to San Antonio and trying to find a good area to live in, which has good schools.  I have a 5 yr old who has to attend school for the first time.  I did preschool at home so he has never experienced school.  Can any one give me advice?

Re: New to town
There are sites online that you can look up to find test scores and ratings based on the national averages. Try Googling school ratings for different cities your are looking at moving to. The sites break it down into subjects(math, science, reading), grades , and even post dropout rates sometimes.

I would do a lot of pop-in's at schools. Do not call and tell them that you are coming so you can see what the class and teacher are really like. You know when people are expecting you, they are always on their best behavior. Also talk to your realitors, they seem to know where the most desired schools are-we just went through a move too...not too far, but a 1/2 hr till I didnt know anything, so - far enough where I am lost! :) Also ask for the schools testing scores, each school should have a copy of this and it will show how they stand in the area, state and national...hope that helps!
