Stuck with a bad school system?

Are you in a public school and you find that the kids in your school are just plain inmauture? Well, welcome to my world. Hey! I'm an eighth grader. You might have read my article called: Friends in middle school. Well, I'm in a public school, and to be honest, I really hate it. The kids are so wild, the teachers yell at the students. Yea, you can say its pretty rough at my school. Well, I have been wanting to go to a private school so bad. And you know, I thought since it was a christian school, then maybe I should give it a shot. But, I'm not so sure anymore. I talked to this nice young lady that went to the school that i wanted to go to, but that was about 20 years ago. She said that her friend's daughter went there like how it was going to be for me- she tranfered from a public school and she said the girls in her grade are nothing but preppy little spioled brats. They would get whatever they wanted when they wanted it, and the were soo cliquish, and thought they were sooo much better than her. So, I dont really want to be put in her situation, so, just my luck, I'm going to have to stay at my public school. Well, I'm going to switch my mind -set and are going to think more positive than negative this year. Hope I helped everyone who has or is in a situation like this.

I find the teachers have become so political, so wrapped up in how to get theirs, more $$$ more benefits, that they only educate what will bring them more. More kids that sympathize with them, while they restrict real learning and attention. My town's school rating has dropped, now no one wants to move here and it's even harder to sell and move away.

I admire your honesty. You seem to be well spoken and level headed, although i believe all kids should receive equal education that is just not the case in america. I also live in a district where the schools leave alot to be desired( ratings of 3) I cannot afford private school for all three of my children, so I deal with the schools, stay involved and on top of them. The education is there if you stay focused and apply yourself! Good Luck

I am a 15 year old girl who is now going to a public highschool. I went to a public middle school last year and it wasn't the greatest days of my life. Teachers are mean and kids are snobish but that doesn't mean they won't be like that in a private school. I am a christian and I use to go to a pirivate school. It was ok there but it doesn't get you out into the real world. I felt that I wasn't getting enough out of my life that I should have. You might get along with most people in a private school but that doesn't get yuou much further in your life. I feel that you can acomplish more in your life by going to a public school. I think that you are the one that should decide on what school to go to. Whatever you think will help you more in life you should chose.

That's right, twilight1234.Let me tell you something: My son is an eight grader at a public school too.Yes there are very unpleasant, even inappropriate things are going on around in his school.My suggestion to my son is that not to change himself and sacrifice all the good habits and manners he already has to get more "friends".Your ability to evaluate your school's conditions realistically proves that you can perfectly find your way through this rough journey.Plus, let's say you changed your school, classroom, even your neighborhood and happy with your new school setting. Do you think you will be given the same chance in the future, when you start your adult life, and deal with tougher issues? NO! Then, believe in yourself, be honest, be courageous, be determined, and LEARN HOW TO DEAL WITH TOUGH SITUATIONS OF THIS LIFE.BEING GOOD AND REMAINING GOOD IS DIFFICULT.WE ALL KNOW THAT. YET IT IS UNBELIEVEBLY REWARDING.

and where did you get your philosophy, it has nothing to do with the environment at home all of the time, having 3 children that graduated, and now dealing with a high school student in the schools now, WELL i can't say it here, but there is a lot to be desired. teachers need to show more respect to the individual child instead of just bundling them all in one category.

I am a mom of a 14 yr. old son, and a 7 yr old son. I too am stuck in a terrible school district, not all schools, my youngest goes to a great elementary, and there are some good high schools, but not our high school, Ive cried, got mad, emailed officials, and nothing has helped, I know how you feel, but you sound like a smart kid, may I ask what state you are in? I totally agree with you. There are some snobbish kids that attend those schools no offense but the parents really need to raise their kids to treat people better and not to have their noses in the air. That is why there are so many things that are negative that goes on in schools when there are children who are treated like outkast and it affects them emotionally and socially and then the dark side arrives and it is not pretty. Our parents at those schools like Friends,Bryn Mawr,Park School,Roland park country and more really need to evaluate their childrens social path and make sure that they treat everyone equally no matter what the differences are.

Excellent choice... Keep in mind that ALL Children are a product of their environment. Kids who are mean and bullying, are kids with parents who are the same way. Kids who are "All That" are kids with parents who are "All That". You can't escape environmental differences. When in Rome do as the Romans do, or become a "fly" on the wall. In the arena of education, being a "fly" on the wall is the next best thing to success. You tend to accomplish what you set off to do, while gathering a class of friends with similar goals. All the others tend to become (over time) a product of their environment... Keep up the great work.

Good for you! Attitude can go a long way in helping you cope with your situation. Just remember, you don't have to do what the other kids are doing. Doing the right thing is always the right thing to do, so don't get caught up with all the foolishness going on around you. What I've found as both a teacher and a counselor is that good students can be good students no matter what school they're in IF they keep a good attitude and don't get mixed up in all the drama that goes on - and I know you know what I'm talking about. Just seek out other kids who are like you and think the way you do. If your school has clubs or extra-curricular activities that you think you might enjoy, go for it. That way you can choose the people you want to be around.

Just remember , school can be fun if you have your mind set to not liking it before you back this year , chances are you wont but if you set your mind on meeting new friends and making the best of your situation , you will enjoy it way more, ever school has it's goo and its bad you have to decide what are you willing to except in your life and if you realy want to make it work, You are young so it is important to learn how to make this not get to you so that you can love your life and not worry about all the bad in it. I hope this helps you .
