My son is very competitive in everything. I play scrabble & boggle with him all the time. We also have vocab. 4-5 words a week. Just be repetitive everyday every where. I also got a list of site words(200) from this site some where. I can't remember. We work on the site words and read alot. V-smile has lots of education games. He's 5yrs. and is working on 7 & 8 yr. level reading and math. Also, try Jump Start cd sets. He plays while learning and doesn't know it. You can check back later to see where he needs help. It grows with the child. Now he's becoming a spelling bee.
LOL. My sister is a Elem. Principal. She has been on me from the beginning. I'm just use to teaching him. His teacher and I are on the same page. She wishes all the parents were doing the same. I even volunteer almost everyday. He is in K at a public school. There are so many levels in his class. My son and maybe three other kids are advanced. The rest are down hill. Some still can't write their names or recognize letters and numbers. This is why I stay all the time. I just want to help them all. I maybe going back to school because of this. I am there so much, alot of kids thought I was a teacher. I just tell them I am a concerned parent.
Are you going to home school your son or will he be going to public school? I am the same way with my daughter. Since she was born I had always worked with her on reading and site words. I have also always worked on her colors, shapes, and numbers as well. She went to preschool for 3 years and now she is in kindergarten. I have noticed that she is getting easily bored with the work they are doing. She already knows it. I think that might be a down side to being a diligent parent and making sure our children know "stuff." lol
