I have been volunteering at the elementary school for several years now and also for both of my sons' Little League baseball teams.  I didn't realize how much of a role model you can be without even being aware of it.

My 14 year old son (an 8th grader in Junior High) asked if he could volunteer at his old elementary school.  I almost passed out, then said "sure".  He now helps two days a week after he gets out of his own school.   The kids love him and draw pictures for him which he keeps up in his room.  They mean a lot to him.

My 14 and 11 year old sons both voluntarily, when getting new books, donate the same amount (or more) to the school library.  With the lack of school funding, the librarian is very appreciative, and the boys know that other kids will be able to enjoy the stories as much as they did.

I don't think the gift of giving should be limited to the holidays but all year through.....

Sincerely,

ONE PROUD MOM

.

My 11 year old asked for ONLY BOOKS for his last birthday and donated them to a shelter. He said it was the best birthday ever. He went and read with the kids and it was good for him and the kids- an absolutel WIN/WIN situation. I think it is important to foster that spirit.

You should be proud. Children learn from their parents by what the parents do!
Great for all of you!

I think it took me too long to realize about how much of a role model you are when your child is born. It's a really important job and I never realized the seriousness of it all. Oh and by the way, they are a couple of very handsome up and coming role models. Thank you, our world could use more people like you and your sons.
