Ihave twins, a boy and a girl which are in pre-k. My children attend a public school in Baltimore City that actually is a good school. The MSA schools were basically all above 90% and the teachers are wonderful. The one thing the school lacks is parent involement and fundraising. I would like to get your suggestions on which fundraisers you have had success with in the past. I know everyone is tired of pizza so I am suggestion Chick-fil-a calendars and Popcorn Palance. Please provide any suggestions for fundraising and how to increase parent participation.

How about publishing a list of actual NEEDS every year and taking donations of the specific items? I'd rather buy an item or contribute with others to purchase the actual item and cross it off the list...thus accounting for the use of the money. As it is, we are bombarded with fundraisers and bullied into trying to sell(really? who are you selling to when every kid is selling this stuff? and we all want to buy from OUR kid or grand kid?) its dangerous to be asking kids to sell stuff and its encouraging them to beg and whine for you to participate so that their class can win the 100% participation contest and teacher can look good to her peers. Or else be singled out as the kid who kept the whole class form getting the pizza party or ice-cream!(purchased with a big chunk of the darn fundraising cash!!!!) And everytime I ask where the money goes I hear "field trips". How about cutting back on the field trips and TEACHING instead?
There are some parents who either have time or money. Rarely do we have both.
Often we just want to donate to help out but do not want to go anywhere to do it. Just send me a link or a website with the donation info needed. I get it all the time for Breast Cancer/AIDS walks and it works great. Even better is if I can subscribe similar to the 'sponsor some unknown child" programs who want your dollar a day. If we can't sponsor our own kids for $2 a day we have greater problems.
Secondly, is participation. This appeals to a whole other sense. Some parents want to do it to make new friends, network, succeed, or if divorced maybe meet some new candidates.
Find out what appeals to them.
I agree, I am tired of pizza also and would rather see a list of what is needed and buy it or see a goal meter to take part in the goal. Gimmicks and one off methods of fundraising is not getting the job done.
i had a bake sale when my daughter was in kindergarden and it was very sucessful.we also had a car wash for fundraising and it was a sucess to.hope this was helpful.
