While it is not possible for all parents to be involved in the school-time activities of their children, many parents do have flex-time jobs or "outside sales" type positions that really do allow for some flexibilty to attend some of the functions.

I am not speaking of the "school plays", "band concerts" and the like that are done normally after school hours. What I am speaking of is (for example) the "weekly assembly" that many schools have in order to recognize students who are excelling in behavior, learning, sportmanship, and other such positive behaviors.

My children have had those assemblies for nearly three years at their elementary school. Recently, situations took us away from that school for a period of time and my children (for you administrators) both mentioned just how much they missed those assemblies. More importantly (for parents) they mentioned just how much they missed the fact that I had been with them (alternating weeks between my children) for those assemblies.

Again, I understand that many parents simply do not have the flexibility to do this... but to those who do, it will help your children to excel just that much more in thier education because they understand by your actions that you really do care about what is happening in their life. The memories will last two lifetimes, thiers and yours!
