Learning is fun and even moms and dads can teach, watch this?
- We would go to the beach and collect shells and then look them up. And then we would study the cloud formations and see if we could see different ones, and see how they clue us in on the
weather conditions. Watching the waves is fun and counting them, do they rise and fall, and when do they get faster or slower? The ecology was fun from looking at the sea gulls to finding different trees and naming them and which animals depend on them. Why are swamps important and what is a water shed, do you know? These are excellent ways to keep science fresh and alive and even some biology is involved. And do you know your poision ivy's? You will never forget the experience if you ever get caught with the itchies, ouch! - Walking and counting calories to either gain or lose weight and how to determine which ways of walking burns more calories and which ones works muscles is another. Checking our pulse and seeing how long it takes to recover from our jog or walk, is it faster or does it seem the same?
- Learning to cook on the beach was also important and it seemed like the better we got at it the more we had for dinner! So I taught her how to soak fresh corn in water that was placed inside a clean plastic garbage bag. First you dig a hole and then go get the fresh water and fill the bag with it. The you place the corn in teh husks right in
and then tie a knot in the bag to soak it all day. Then just let it be for a few hours the longer the juicer the corn, yum! Safety lessons were always a MUST! You never went anywhere without another person, so if something happened the other could hail for help or get a ranger in the park. - We also learned about not being a litterbug and why this is so important. Have you ever seen a turtle with a shell grown around one of those six pack plastic carriers? It is enough to make one ill. And fishing line is dangerous when left behind it kills fish and other wildlife when they get it in their wings they aren't able to fly!
- And through all of this I feel that learning is not just for the kids but we adults learn too, and when the kids see this it makes them like sponges that want to learn and impress their parent/parents. Learning is a lifelong experience and when we stop learning we stop living and I want my kids, and now grandkids to live in a world that is clean and ready for them to take over and in doing so I want them to know what we did as a family to make it so! And as a parent we can't do more for our kids than to teach them teh love of learning and reading good books that can take you to places you could never go to and become the character in teh book if it is a mermaid or if it is Big Moby Dick, or licving in a tree house as in Robinson Caruso! The more we share with our kids in the learning years the more they will love and respect it for their children to come.
- And this is our learning experience, sharing time and each other in a setting that makes us happy and the creatures that live there too!
