This summer I am having my 9 year old son read at least one book a week.  He gets to choose the book.  He just has to tell me or his mom something about the book after he reads it.  This way his mind stays sharp.  Plus, maybe it will help foster a love of reading in him.

I should say this is somewhat of an experiment on my part. I pray that it works.

You might want to include having your son tell whether he likes the book or not, and explain why. Further down the road, he might want to write a book review or something such as re-writing the beginning or ending chapter to a book.
