I have my amazing second grade students, third graders in the Fall, willing to remain engaged over the summer or any other extended vacation by keeping on-line travel journals.

They record the significant places or events during their travels. The children have fun inserting words from our Spelling lists along with digital pictures of such events. Some journals will record far away places while others will record adventures in their neighborhoods. Regardless of where the events take place the creativity and writing is equally wonderful.

Some share their online journals only with me, their 2nd grade teacher. However, many choose to share  online with classmates as well.

Once they return to school they share their journals in the classrooms. It is a wonderful way to keep the kids and their folks engaged in the learning process while having fun!

This is a particularly enticing way to keep kids engaged - many of them don't see each other all summer, and they get to keep in touch with their friends while learning!
