Schools in massachusetts are for the most part based on town. I realize in other parts of the country you can move to a town and the schools can be quite different from section to section, but not so much here. If you look in Boston Magazine (each year they rate all the towns school systems in MA from best to worst based on H.S.) you can get an idea of how all the the schools in the town will pretty much be.  There is a slight variation in schools that might hold more IEP students but it is still accurate.

In addition to looking at Boston Magazine ratings, take a look at MCAS results (state testing). This will give you insight into how schools are doing from grade 3 on.

Also - keep in mind that many communities may have a district for elementary schools and then there is a new "district" for a regional Middle school and or HS.

Lawrence is an urban city with a diverse population. There are towns around Lawrence that are more suburban in nature and range from working class to upper middle class. If you have a middle school girl, Esperanza Academy in Lawrence is a wonderful private school.
