I thought I'd post a quick tutorial for our new members on the best ways to get started here.  All members, please feel free to build off this by adding your own tips in the comments.

Welcome all you first timers!  You made it to the GreatSchools Community and we're happy you're here!  I'm guessing you ended up here because you have a question you are looking for an answer to and you've come to the right place.  You will find a supportive group of parents here, ready and willing to offer advice, answers, and help in any way they can.

I think the best way for a newbie to jump right in and get answers is to post your question in Q&A.  Remember that this community is national and is not affliliated with any specific school, area, or school district.  Parents here most likely will not be able to tell you when and where your child's school dance is but they will be able to give you great answers on appropriate curfew times.

Once you've gotten a feel for the place, you should take a look at all the different groups.  Groups are a great place to have more pointed and smaller discussions on specific topics.  You have an option to create your own group, but please take a look and see if one has already been created for that topic.  There might already be some great discussions on your topic going on and we don't want you to miss out!  Click here to browse the community groups.

Advice is a place designed to give you a place to share helpful parenting tips and stories.  Do you have a homework strategy that worked amazingly for you kids?  A special routine to help you relax?  A significant experience that changed your parenting perspective?  This is the place to share it.

You can always ask  me or one of the Top Parents if you want some advice on the best place to post a question or some more details on how things work around here.  We are more than willing to point you in the right direction or help you in any way we can.

Have fun!

Another great place to find plenty of advice, information, and suggestions is in the Great Schools library located here: www.greatschools.net/content/allArticles.page

With articles on everything from curriculum, kindergarten readiness, and the occasional healthy snack recipe, this library is as good as a public library without the late fees!

According to an article in the LA Times this morning, May is the biggest "moving" month. And people are very likely to move with strong consideration to the schools in their new area.

So with all the new members and increase in posters, it's time to bring TJ's great advice to the top of the heap again.

Speaking of groups, I'm noticing a lot of new faces this week. Welcome!!

If you have an idea for a group and aren't sure if a similar one already exists just reply here or ask in a question on the Q&A.

Many of the members will be happy to help you find established groups that span virtually every topic. If we can't help you find a niche in one of the established groups, we'll definitely help you create your own. It's great to have a voice, but we definitely want you to talk to an audience!
